ANATOMY

OF A

BURGER

It's that time of year, folks. Endless backyard BBQs, rooftop soirees, and summer birthdays. If you're planning on doing any kind of entertaining this summer, let us remind you to keep it simple. Good friends, good wine and a killer burger. No need for the fancy stuff; a perfectly assembled, juicy burger goes a long way. It's not about artisanal bread, or the latest recipe-intensive special sauce. It’s about quality ingredients and ideal proportions. Here’s everything that goes into (and onto) a truly delicious burger.

bun
With tons of buns to choose from, our top picks are ciabatta, brioche, and sesame seed. Lightly butter your preferred bun and brown face down on the grill to give it a nice crispy finish.
patty
Store-bought or homemade, beef or veggie, season patties with salt, pepper, and a dash of garlic powder. To achieve a delicious chargrilled flavor, grill directly over charcoal to desired doneness.
sauce
Sauce snobs may disagree, but you can never go wrong with the classic ketchup & mustard duo. Whatever flavor you favor, add a dollop (or 3, we won’t judge) of your preferred special sauce on buns.
lettuce
Don’t snooze on the inner workings of your burger. Add some crunch with a few layers of iceberg lettuce, which you can alternatively use as a healthy bun replacement too!
tomato
Add some juiciness with a thinly sliced and salted Beefsteak tomato. For some extra zing, add in a few onion slices. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, sprinkle in some pickles and peppers.
cheese
We prefer American for its salty flavor and creamy consistency, but you can spice it up with a slice of Pepper Jack too. For extra melty goodness, place slice on patty while cooking for one minute.
